Music for peace

Introduction

As the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine started, many families were displaced from their homes, requiring humanitarian and medical aid: items for their immediate emergency and ongoing needs, medical supplies, hygiene packs, first aid kits, transportation, evacuation, critical services and more.

We would like to aid these displaced people in any way we can. Consequently, we have decided to host a musical concert to raise funds and awareness for their cause, which will feature students from our school playing an assortment of instruments and compositions. This will hopefully be a successful fundraiser, and raise sufficient funds to be able to help a substantial number of Ukrainian refugees.

We are raising money for the Singapore Red Cross charity through our Giving.sg site below:

The Singapore Red Cross will be donating care packs and humanitarian aid to those who need it in the ongoing Refugee crisis This includes hygiene and food kits, warm clothing, transportation, clean water, first response volunteers, medicine and more. Please help us to do our best in helping the victims of the conflict, and helping others through our musical skills.

Below are the details of the concert itself:

Date: Sunday, 15th May, 2022
Time: 3:30pm - 5:00pm
Venue: The Chamber, Arts House, 1 Old Parliament Lane, Singapore

Thank you to all my fellow performers and audience members for attending this event; with your efforts we hopefully can make some significant positive change!

Leopold is 6 and in G1 in SJII. He enjoys all kinds of sports and is never tired after a full day of running around. When he is not trying to maintain justice in the family or in his classroom, you will find him playing football with his friends or reinventing the world with his Playmobil.

Fortitude. Hope. Peace. Just a few words that paint my piece. Largo has a calm, slow and peaceful melody to it; the tune resonates within the atmosphere, creating this vibrance that expands outwards its surroundings. Coming from Scotland, the composer of this wonderful piece, William McGibbon, was well known for producing Scottish and Italian-influenced tunes. I chose this piece as it similarly and closely promotes calmness and tranquility. This resembles that of the innocent Ukrainian citizens, only seeking to obtain peace and be surrounded by loved ones. I, as well as others, do hope that the war will end soon and that we are able to help the Ukrainian people out, knowing that they are supported by us. -Julian Tay SJII Grade 9 9MG2

I am Arielle from 9BE1. My piece, Étude Op. 25, No. 1, is by Chopin, a Polish composer. I chose this piece to thank the Poles who selflessly helped the Ukrainian people during this difficult time. I hope you enjoyed today's performance!
